From a 1987 marketing campaign for Domino's Pizza. To this day I have no idea what he's supposed to be, or what "Noid" stands for. The last pic's a bendable rubber toy figure that they sold. I had one (I believe it cost me about 5 bucks), but frankly it was so ugly I didn't keep it for long.
I remember the Noid well. Domino's was a big deal in the mid to late 80s, pop culture hot, if I remember correctly. Definitely an 80's touchstone!
ReplyDeleteSo did you have the figure??? Or in other words, did you waste 5 bucks on a figure, like I did??????
Delete"Annoyed" this is where the name came from... the little "gremlin" who would ruin your Pizza .... Have a great day good Sir...
ReplyDeleteBut then wouldn't it be spelled "noyed"???
Deletea play on words... it was an advertising ploy ...that is all This was ti promote the small tripod that prevented the box fro collapsing upon its contents... ( 30 minutes or less)
DeleteI still have one of these figures.. and if only one attacks your food ... it is "A Noid"...lol
An 80s Icon for sure. I don't know what he was either, but I remember him well. And I am sure he helped them sell some pizzas.
ReplyDeleteDr. Theda beat me to it. But, I have no idea why they chose that spelling. Maybe because "noyed" just looks weird, and is harder to pronounce? I don't know. But, you're right, it's a weird looking little "thing."
ReplyDeleteAnd I could never figure out what those two things on its' head were supposed to be
